Diva Cup Review- Size 1

This is copied from the original post, which I wrote, here: http://crazyjennjennmenstrual.blog.com/2014/05/03/diva-cup-review-size-1/

Hi there ladies, time for my first review!  I just wanted to let you know, there will be many more like this, some sponsored, some not… DISCLAIMER:  I have bought this cup entirely by myself, have no affiliation with Diva International Inc. and this review is completely my own.
So here I was, using soft cups since August, realizing there had to be something better.  So I went online and found the Diva Cup!  The Diva Cup is a 100% medical grade silicone cup that is made in Canada and FDA approved.I could get it from Target and use a gift card so I said, “What do I have to lose?”.  It came relatively quickly, (I think I ordered it on a Monday and it was here on a Saturday?)  Opening it up, you saw a few things.  I forgot to take pictures of the directions, so forgive me on that one but they came in English, Spanish, French, and German, and were just- ok.  Here is the picture of the Diva Cup packaging:
The contents of the Diva Cup box contain:
  • a cotton drawstring pouch
  • a Diva Cup pin
  • the Diva Cup
  • instructions
First let me talk about the pin:
I just want to give you a laugh because this is crazy.  Somehow they think that if you don’t have pad or tampon wrappers that you want to let people know you are on your period.  Not for me.  Just kind of funny.  I don’t wear this pin, it stays in the packaging but if that kind of conversation starter works for you, please enjoy lol.
I think the box was very clear at explanation though and I would say if I picked it up in let’s say, Whole Foods, I would kind of get the idea.  They have pretty good diagrams, I like that they are in color.  I do not like their size chart but I would have to say I would like to argue to a lot of cup companies that it is very deceiving to say that Size 1 (or small) should be for virgins, women under 25, those who haven’t had children, etc…  I feel like cups should be chosen by length of vagina while on period, flow amount, and muscle tendency.  I you have a long vagina/high cervix, medium flow, and average to weak pelvic floor muscles, the size 1 Diva Cup would probably be perfect for you.  So anyway, here is a pic of their diagram and sizing:
Sorry the quality is so bad, poor lighting and iPod camera.
I would like to add, I am sharing this from a “beginners” point of view even though I would consider myself a “seasoned” cup user.  I think if you are truly a “seasoned” cup user, you would be able to use the majority of cups without issue.
The cup folds well.  I had no trouble getting it into a nice punch-down fold.
The “c” fold would work too, also fairly easy as this is a medium soft cup.  Compared to a Lunette size 2.
Lunette and Diva squishiness:
Here is the Diva vs. Lunette punch-down folds:
The Diva cup measures 70mm in length, the rim is 41mm.  It’s capacity to the holes is 20ml and the capacity to the rim is 30ml.  It has flow measurement lines at 7.5ml and 15ml.  It’s stem is 13mm long.  The stem is a tube stem with 7 grip rings between the cup and the stem.
^the measurement lines and “made in canada”

^ punch down, hollow stem, and grip rings
^Diva stem and grip rings vs. Lunette stem and grip rings

^ Diva cup measurement lines in 1/4 oz and 1/2 oz.

So over all insertion is pretty easy, I did a dry run and it went well, no issues.  The cup popped open very well.  As a virgin I had used softcups and tampons before so I can’t say it was the first thing up there but it ends up being fairly small and easy.  On my heavy flow days though I could only get about 6 hours, not the 12 hours they market.  This was fine with me though as it was longer than a tampon.  I did have leaking at night on my heavier nights (nights 2 and 3).  I wore a pad with it the first couple of cycles though as I was scarred to death of leaking.  You can urinate and make bowel movements with cups in, I found that it was easier if I took my cup out.
Overall, it is a good cup, but I think people should look into more cups than Diva just because it it “popular”.  Hope this post helps.  Enjoy!
